Industrial camera users note: these lenses have focusing problems

If you are using the EF 50mm F1.4 lens of an industrial camera, the following information requires special attention.

Recently, an industrial camera company announced that some batches of its EF 50mm F1.4 lenses have a focusing system failure.

According to the description of the industrial camera, the main problem is that when the focus point moves from infinity to close range, the focus module of the lens may get stuck at the red circle position shown in the figure below, and this problem will occur regardless of whether the autofocus mode or the manual focus mode is used.

The batches currently known to have this problem include products whose first four numbers are:

• "4918"
• "5018"
• "5118"
• "5218"
• "5318"
• "5418"

We found that some EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lenses have abnormal focusing operation. The explanation of this phenomenon and its corresponding methods is as follows.

Phenomenon

In AF or MF mode, when the focus moves from the infinity end to the close-up end, focus may stop near the area shown in the red circle in the picture below.

Target products

If the first four digits from the left of the lens's serial number are "4918", "5018", "5118", "5218", "5318" or "5418" (as shown in the red box in the figure below), the lens may be a target product.

Corresponding method

Please send the subject product causing the above phenomenon to the industrial camera repair center. We will perform free inspection and repair regardless of whether it is within the warranty period. When sending your lens for repair, make sure the lens cap and lens rear cap (dust cap) are installed. In addition to the above phenomena, inspections and repairs due to other problems will be handled according to normal maintenance procedures.
