A fisheye lens is a short-focal-length camera lens (f=6–16mm) featuring an ultra-wide field of view (typically around 180°, and sometimes up to 270°). It derives its name from its front element, which resembles a protruding fish's eye. As an ultra-wide-angle lens, it captures imagery that standard lenses cannot.
Most conventional lenses are designed to project straight lines; any image distortion is generally confined to the edges of the frame and is relatively mild. In contrast, distortion is an inherent characteristic of fisheye lenses, resulting in exaggerated, curved distortion at the edges of the image. Unlike standard ultra-wide-angle lenses, which often suffer from light loss in the corners, a key feature of the fisheye lens is its ability to maintain uniform brightness across the entire frame.
